Sides Generator: Audition Sides From a Script
Sides are the pages an actor needs for one role: the scenes where that character speaks. Drop a PDF, Final Draft, Fountain or Word script, pick the character, untick any scene you do not need, and download a clean screenplay PDF. Use it for audition pages, a self tape, or tomorrow’s shoot.

How to use it
- 1
Drop the script anywhere on the page, or paste a few pages of it.
- 2
Pick the character. The list starts with whoever has the most lines.
- 3
Every scene they speak in is ticked. Untick the ones you do not need, then download the PDF or copy the text.
What goes into audition sides?
Usually two or three scenes that show the range of the role, around one to four pages in total. Pick a scene where the character wants something badly and one where they are on the back foot. Casting directors rarely send a whole script, and actors prepare better with fewer, sharper pages.
Keep the scene headings and the action in. An actor needs to know where they are and what just happened, not only their lines.
How do I make sides for a shoot day?
On a production, sides are the day’s scenes shrunk down so cast and crew can carry them. For an indie shoot, pick the lead, tick the scenes on tomorrow’s call sheet and print the PDF. Scenes without that character can go in a second set made from another role.
Why is a scene missing from the list?
The list shows scenes where the character has a cue, so a scene where they only appear in the action is not in it. If a name is spelled two ways in the script, like DANNY and DAN, each spelling shows up as its own character. Cue extensions such as (V.O.) or (CONT’D) are folded into the same name.
Questions writers ask
Is my script stored?
No. The file is sent to our server only to read the pages, and nothing is kept. The PDF is built in your browser.
Does the PDF keep my original page numbers?
No. The sides are laid out fresh in standard format, Courier 12 on US letter, so they start at page one. The scene headings are the same as in your script.
Can I make sides for two characters at once?
Make one set per character. For a two-hander, pick either role and every scene they share will already be in the list.
Can I edit the sides before I send them?
Yes. Download the Fountain file or copy the text, change what you need in any screenwriting app or text editor, and export it again.
