Random Plot and Storyline Generator
A plot generator gives you a whole premise in one tap: who it is about, what they want, what stands in the way and what goes wrong halfway. Pick a genre and a format, lock the parts you like, and reroll the rest until the story feels like yours.

In short
This plot generator builds a full premise in one tap: protagonist, flaw, goal, antagonist, setting, inciting incident, twist and stakes, by genre and format. Lock the parts you like and reroll the rest; it runs in your browser with hand written tables, not AI.
Tap any card to lock it, then reroll the rest.
Premise
An elderly neighborhood watch captain everyone ignores, who confuses controlling everyone with keeping them safe, wants to recover the black box from a crash the airline wants forgotten. It starts in an Atlantic City boardwalk out of season, when the man they testified against is released on a technicality. Standing in the way: a customs chief who controls every container at the port. Halfway through, the ransom money is counterfeit and the kidnappers know it. If they fail, the whole crew is picked off one by one.

What does each part of the plot do?
| Part | The question it answers |
|---|---|
| Protagonist | Whose story is this, and what makes them specific? |
| Flaw | What inside them makes the goal harder than it should be? |
| Goal | What do they want badly enough to act? |
| Antagonist or obstacle | Who or what pushes back, and why? |
| Inciting incident | What happens that makes doing nothing impossible? |
| Midpoint twist | What do they learn that changes the plan? |
| Stakes | What is lost, for them personally, if they fail? |
| Series engine (pilot) | What brings a new story through the door every week? |
| Final turn (short) | What last image or reveal makes the short land? |
Is a random plot generator any use to a real writer?
Not as a finished story, and it is not meant to be one. It is useful the way a writing partner throwing out bad ideas is useful: one card out of eight sparks something, you lock it, and the rest becomes a problem to solve. Why would a lighthouse keeper want that? Why would that be the midpoint? Answering those questions is writing.
Every line comes from fixed tables written for its genre, so a horror premise reads like horror and a comedy premise has a joke in it. No AI runs when you press the button, and the same link always rebuilds the same plot, so you can send one to a writing partner.
How do you turn a generated plot into a story?
Start with the flaw and the midpoint. A good midpoint should hit the protagonist exactly where the flaw lives: the person who cannot trust anyone learns their only ally is lying. If the two cards do not talk to each other, reroll one or rewrite it until they do.
Then write the premise as one sentence in your own words and run it through the logline generator. If the logline needs the word "and" three times, the premise is two movies. Pick one.
What changes between a feature, a pilot and a short?
A feature needs a midpoint that turns the story around, so it gets one. A TV pilot also needs an engine: the thing that keeps generating episodes after the pilot story is solved, so the pilot format adds a series engine card. A short film rarely has room for a midpoint; it lives on its final turn, so the short format swaps the midpoint for an ending.
Questions writers ask
What is a plot generator?
A tool that combines a protagonist, goal, obstacle, setting and turning points into a random story premise you can build on.
Is this a storyline generator or a story idea generator?
Both. It gives you a full storyline in one paragraph, plus each story idea as its own card you can keep or reroll.
Is this an AI plot generator?
No AI runs when you use it. Every line comes from fixed tables written for each genre, and the generator runs in your browser. Nothing you generate is sent anywhere.
Can I use a generated plot in my screenplay?
Yes. The premises are free to use. A premise is only a starting point; the story you build from it is yours.
How do I share a plot with someone?
Tap Share. The link rebuilds the exact same plot, including any cards you locked, for whoever opens it.
