What goes in a query letter, in order?
| Paragraph | What it does | Length |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Hook | Title, genre and logline, plus why you are writing to this person | 2 to 3 sentences |
| 2. Story | The setup, the turn and what is at stake | 3 to 5 sentences |
| 3. You | Why you wrote it: placements, expertise, life experience | 1 to 3 sentences |
| 4. Close | Ask to send the script, thank them | 1 to 2 sentences |
How do you write a query letter for a screenplay?
Lead with the hook: title, genre and logline in the first two lines. Managers read hundreds of these, so the first sentence decides whether they read the second. Follow with a few sentences of story that show the turn and the stakes, then a short line about you, then a one line ask.
Personalise the first line for each recipient. Mention a client or a film of theirs that connects to your script. A query that could have gone to anyone usually reads like it did.
What should a query letter leave out?
Attachments, unless asked. Long bios. Claims about how much the film will earn. Comparisons to the biggest hits of all time. Any mention of how many people you have already queried. And never invent credits or placements: the generator only uses what you put in the About you field.
Where does this generator come from?

This free version is a lighter cut of the same idea, written from the few lines you give it. It will never be as specific as you can be, so edit it until it sounds like you wrote it.
