EXT. HARBOR ROAD - NIGHT
Rain sheets across an empty two-lane road. A lone taxi idles under a flickering streetlamp, wipers beating.
MARA OKAFOR (30s), a night dispatcher with a pencil behind one ear, jogs toward it, coat over her head.
INT. TAXI - CONTINUOUS
She drops into the back seat. The DRIVER, TEODOR (60s), watches her in the mirror.
TEODOR
Where to?
MARA
The depot. And fast, if the meter can take it.
TEODOR
The meter can take anything.
He pulls out. Mara checks her phone. Three missed calls from DEPOT.
INT. DISPATCH DEPOT - NIGHT
A cramped control room. Radios crackle. A wall map of the city glows with forty small green lights, one for every cab on the road.
Mara slides into her chair. BENNY LOWE (50s), her supervisor, hovers with a cold coffee.
BENNY
You're late.
MARA
I'm early for tomorrow.
BENNY
Car nineteen went dark twenty minutes ago.
MARA
Dark how?
BENNY
No radio. No GPS. Nothing.
