THORNWOOD
Vera Cole, a professional surveyor with fifteen years of experience, is hired to complete the Thornwood survey, an attempt that has failed four times. On Day 2, her measurements do not match the terrain. Over ten days, she documents a forest that is internally consistent but inconsistent with itself across time, moving at a measured rate. At the midpoint, she discovers Ruth Calloway living in the forest interior by choice, healthy and deliberate. In the final act, Vera must decide whether to complete a map that will open the Thornwood to development, or make a different kind of map entirely.
A cartographer hired to survey a remote old-growth forest in northern Minnesota finds that the landscape shifts between visits, with every measurement she takes contradicting the one she took before. When she discovers the previous surveyor who was declared missing three years ago, she finds a woman living in the forest by choice and a question she did not come prepared to answer.
