COYOTE BLOOD — Crime Screenplay
Every duffel bag Sofia Reyes carries across the border buys another week of her mother's cancer treatment. She has built a careful, terrible life out of necessity. When a shelter dog in her van dies with surgical staples in its belly and synthetic heroin leaking from its stomach, Sofia sees the pipeline she has been feeding and the animals paying for it. Now she has to choose between the chemotherapy bill, the dogs she cannot save, and the cartel that will kill her family the moment she looks back.
Sofia is seventeen and has been smuggling drugs across the Texas border since she was fifteen to pay for her mother's chemotherapy. Then a rescue dog died in the back of her van, and she discovered what the cartel was really sewing inside the puppies.
