Eleanor Vance is the sharpest cryptanalyst at Bletchley Park in the winter of 1942, and the decrypt on her desk will kill everyone in the building by dawn. When Colonel Fitzroy refuses to sound the alarm, Eleanor realizes he has known for forty eight hours and is letting it happen for reasons that will either win the war or end it. Forced to choose between obedience and the eleven hundred people working around her, Eleanor has until sunrise to solve a problem that has no right answer and a ciphertext that has no key.

She decoded the coordinates of an Allied convoy and begged her commander to warn the Navy. He refused. Then he told her the truth: the coordinates were not ships. They were Bletchley Park.
