Denny Voss is the best amateur boxer in three Kentucky counties, training at the gym his father Ray built before going to prison for assault. When promoter Carl Pitts offers Denny a management contract and a path to the state title, Denny signs it in the prison visitation room while Ray watches without saying a word. As Denny wins four straight fights under Carl's management, he finds a VHS tape of Ray's career-ending loss from 2003, and the tape shows what a thrown fight looks like to someone who knows what to look for. Carl tells Denny his version first: Ray threw the fight to get out of their contract. Ray tells Denny the actual version: Carl coerced him. Both accounts fit the same facts. Denny walks into the state title fight six days later without knowing which version is true, and fights as if the outcome is entirely his.

A twenty-two-year-old boxer from rural Kentucky earns a shot at the state title with the help of a regional promoter. When he discovers his father threw a fight twenty years ago for that same promoter, he has six days to decide whether the path he is standing on was ever his. A boxing drama about the difference between what the ring promises and what the business around it delivers.
