FADE IN: A NOTE ON LANGUAGE: All courtroom testimony is in German unless otherwise noted. English is indicated when spoken. Hannah's English translation appears as the rendered text when she is interpreting in the booth, with the German source presented through her headphones (heard only by her, indicated in action lines). EXT. PALACE OF JUSTICE, NUREMBERG, MORNING, NOVEMBER 1945 A military transport truck rumbles to a stop on cobblestones still damp from rain. The Palace of Justice rises four stories, its limestone facade pocked by shrapnel marks. Scaffolding covers the east wing. A broken window has been boarded over. HANNAH KRONER (26) steps down from the truck bed. She wears a wool coat, a leather satchel over one shoulder. Her hair is pinned back. Her face holds no expression. She walks to the entrance where an AMERICAN GUARD stands with a clipboard. The guard checks her credentials. A photograph. A name. He looks at her face. She meets his eyes. He waves her through. She crosses the threshold. The smell of plaster dust and coal heat fills the corridor. INT. PALACE OF JUSTICE, CORRIDOR, NUREMBERG, MORNING Hannah walks alone. Her footsteps echo off stone walls. The corridor is long, lined with doors painted the color of old bone. A radiator hisses. From somewhere deeper in the building, the sound of a typewriter, distant and rhythmic. She passes a window. Outside, the courtyard is empty. A single tree stands stripped of leaves. 1
